Splean: "My Heart"

Today in Best Russian Music is a very popular Russian rock band Splean. The name is derived from the second definition of the word "Spleen" - "depression," even though their lyrics and especially today's song are not necessarily depressive. The spelling of the name of the band is a reference to Beatles. Indeed for Russian rock music they almost as significant.

Horned Necrocannibals "Bitches, Sex and Ptomaine"

Today in Best Russian Music we are going to talk about something heavier and more underground. Russian Death Metal band Horned Necrocannibals is pretty well known among Death Metal fans, but for purpose of introduction of them to a wider audience I chose to present one of their less heavier songs. Of course, the lyrics are as ridiculous as in all their other songs, and music is pretty good. There are also several songs in English, but for now we'll start with this one

Bi-2 "Revolution"

Today on Best Russian Music: Bi-2 is a famous Russian rock band, which even got MTV Russian Music Award for best rock in 2007. There isn't much to say, as they are very popular in Russia, but I've never seen them mentioned in the West. One of their best songs in my opinion is Revolution.

Night Snipers "Actress"

I decided to star listing Best Russian Music with a very lyrical song. This song is by band named Night Snipers, which is pretty popular in Russia but doesn't belong to the "elite" of Russian music, so they don't get a lot of international exposure. Their songs also had been seen as hinting as lesbian themes, which also was a problem, but It's not clear if there is any truth to those claims, as the singer and writer, Diana, Arbenina, doesn't like to expose her personal life.

First post

This blog will be dedicated to posting the best Russian music. Russian pop-music is a horrible abomination grown around mafia and bureaucracy, but there are many non-mainstream bands which are worth listening to, but unfortunately get no international exposure at all. I will post their videos and translate lyrics so they will be accessible to the international audience.
Thank you for visiting my blog and please stay tuned!
